Magic Kingdom: Haunted Mansion

If you could ride one ride back to back in Magic Kingdom, what would it be? Would it be one of the mountains? Maybe a classic like Pirates of the Caribbean or Small World? For many of us, rides bring a sense of nostalgia and we enjoy the way the rides make us feel. For me, hands down, the Haunted Mansion at Magic Kingdom is my all-time favorite ride.

This ride gives me all the fall time feels (which is my favorite season yay!). So for this post, I thought I would walk you through the Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion ride and how they have been handling the famous spooky house during the pandemic.

First and foremost, Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion has amazing theming throughout the ride. The queue line will keep your eyes moving around because there is a lot to see and take in.

The haunted house is perched on a hill with an iron fence that encompasses the mansion property which sits along the Rivers of America.

Make sure to check out the interactive walls while in line and keep a close on the tombstones while next to the graveyard. Especially the widowed bride, Constance's tombstone.

Where is the Haunted Mansion located at the Magic Kingdom?

The Haunted Mansion is located towards the back left of the park in Liberty Square. There are a few other rides to experience like the Liberty Square Riverboat and The Hall of Presidents, but the Haunted Mansion is definitely a favorite among Disney fans.

What is the Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion ride experience like?

Although I don't want to give away all the fun, I will disclose a little bit so that you can be prepared if you are traveling with little ones and/or with seniors. Once you make it to the Haunted Mansion doors, a haunted castmember will greet you into the mansion. You will enter the haunted space with a larger group and be led through a few dark rooms that will further enhance the spooky atmosphere.

Once you get out of the rooms, the line will form that leads you onto the ride via conveyer belt. For seniors and/or people with disabilities, I have seen the conveyer belt slowed down so that you can safely get in your moving cart.

The cart itself is spacious and can sit up to three people with varying combinations (e.g., two adults/child, adult/two children, two adults, etc.).

After you climb into your moving coffin (I think it kind of looks like a coffin??) you will ride along and experience the Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion.

Haunted Mansion during the phased reopening

The queue line begins close to the Riverboat entrance and snakes around by the water's edge and back up the ramp to the Haunted mansion. The interactive walls are roped off and the holding rooms will be open so that there are no enclosed spaces with groups of people. The magic of the Haunted Mansion is still very much alive given the procedures in place.

Advice for planning a trip to the Magic Kingdom Haunted Mansion

  • Schedule a FastPass for the Haunted Mansion, especially if you will be planning a trip to the Magic Kingdom in the fall time. A few reasons as to why I suggest a fast pass because the queue line is mostly outside and the line can get lengthy and hot. It is also very warm in Florida during the fall months, so do yourself a favor and schedule a FastPass.

  • Update: During the Disney phase reopening, there are no FastPasses. Therefore, utilize the My Disney Experience app and check wait times. In my experience, I found the longest wait times for the Haunted Mansion to be around 60 minutes on the weekends and 20 minutes during the weekdays. This ride also has scheduled cleanings every few hours, so expect longer than usual wait times during those times.

  • Check out Mori Momentos after the haunted attraction to pick up some souvenirs. Don't worry if you miss out on Mori Momentos because I've seen plenty of Haunted Mansion merchandise at the Emporium on Main Street.

  • If you will be riding the Haunted Mansion around lunchtime, check out Columbia Harbor House (seafood type selections, located in Liberty Square) or Pinocchio Village Haus (flatbreads and salads) which is located in Fantasy Land.

  • Riding the Haunted Mansion around dinner time and looking for a sit-down restaurant? Check out Liberty Tree Tavern for a family feast. The dessert is amazing!
